Gen Con Indy was a most pleasurable experience. It was good to see old friends again and to make some new ones. I stayed at the Omni hotel and it was absolutely awesome!
I was not rushed at all and had time to view various events going on. I did however miss the screening of the new Dungeons and Dragons Movie. If you ever go to Gen Con, you should sign up well in advance for True Dungeon. They now have a True Dungeon Tavern. The Tavern was most enjoyable. Bardic singing and many games and drinks and good times were had by all.
The swag bags had a special Gen Con Indy 2005 six-sided die. One of the vendors had the rest of the set in a collectors tin for a nominal fee. The Gen Con store this year had many things from past cons for you to buy. I got a large Gen Con mug, back pack, badge holder (which is really nice and is a wallet as well), t-shirt and some Star Wars Celebration key chains. I got those for free because I bought a t-shirt.
I met Ron Glass, Rob Van Dam, Fred Williamson, Tricia Helfer, Mary McDonnell, Dean Hagland and Ernie Hudson. Although I did not work with any of them this time, I did enjoy meeting them.
The Camarilla Requiem game was held as well. I did not attend the game as it was held in Peru. Yes you got it right. Peru. My character who is a Russian Princess would not have gone to Peru. She sends people to gather information and bring it back to her. This is what she did. I did stop by the game to say hello to many friends. Some were sad that I was not playing but once I explained, they understood.
I did however play in the Deliria Street Theater Larps and had an awesome time! For those of you that play Mage and Changeling, it is a cross between them both. Those of you that do will recognice the creator Phil Brucato who wrote Mage, Bastet and the Sorcerer's Crusade to name a few. Now mind you that this is a shameless plug for a game that I am the Membership Director for their Fan Club. But I enjoyed it so much that I am going to continue plugging this game so that you try it at least once. Go to www.laughingpan.com for more information. A supplement comes out for this game in October and another one in December. (I did buy another core rule book so that I could loan one out if I needed to and also ordered the new supplement.)
The other games I bought this year included the following:
Serenity Roleplaying Game published by Margaret Weiss Productions which I had Ron Glass sign. I forgot my Firefly DvDs so I bought the book. It looks interesting enough to try it out for at least one day TT adventure. I will let you know how it goes when we play it.
Book of Templates Deluxe Edition whichs is a Character Creation Toolkit put out by Goodman Games for a d20 system. You never know when you are going to need it!
Plunder - You are a pirate. Your job is to get so much gold. There are many ways to get this gold and it is fun along the way. This is a card game that has maps as cards and encounters and a whole lot of fun. It can take anywhere from a couple of hours to many hours depending upon how many people play. Put out by Laughing Pan
Horrific - You are a monser. One of 6. There are 6 different decks. Each monster has it's own winning condition. It was fun to watch. I bought all six decks and will be playing them with various friends. Put out by Laughing Pan
Fishing for Terrorists is a card game where you fight against terrorism as the head of a government agency. You also have "friends" who are trying to capture the terrorists too. It takes about 30 minutes to play. Put out by Slugfest Games.
En Garde! is a card game where you are a Renaissance-era duelist with a score to settle. It is very fast paced depending upon what you do. Put out by Slugfest Games.
King Fu Fighting is also a fast paced game where you are a Kung Fu Master. Will your Kung Fu be too weak? Put out by Slugfest Games.
The freebie stuff I ended up with is huge! Thanks to all who helped gather this fun stuff for our group Focused Attention. You guys ROCK! I ended up with a couple of full series in books in the Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance settings, Eberron Character Sheets, the game Nexus Ops put out by Avalon Hill, Deck of regular playing cards from Gamestation.net, bumperstickers for City of Heroes, comic book from City of Heroes, Lots of booster packs for the card games Spycraft, Warlord and Duel Masters, a booster pack for the Hex Card Game, Sleeve holders for collectable card games, Eight Sides are Better than One game. I brought back a cooler full of stuff along with a box.
I did by the Women of the Camarilla Calendar. Just and FYI for all of you in it, I will be at ICC with this calendar so stop by Security and sign it please!
When I got back from Gen Con on Monday, I started my new job as an Assistant Store Manager for Family Dollar. I am enjoying it so far. It is very different from Borders. Their training process is awesome and there are 5 books I have to go thru before my training is finished. Marge, my boss, is down to earth and straight forward. I like that. If I ask a question, I get an answer. That is new for me. I had to pry answers out of them at Borders and then sometimes it was not even an answer. It is a farther drive but mostly highway so the gas mileage has been ok.
