This is a poll... I want your opinions. A law in Texas makes it a felony if a teacher has sex with a student regardless of age. So that means high school or college students can not have sex with their teachers or professors. A 25 year old female teacher is on trial for having sex with an 18 year old male student. She can get 25 years in prison for it. Is it right? Is it wrong? why?

There are those who would say that a teacher/student relationship is inherently abusive because of the power imbalance. However, I know many good couples that met while one was a college student and the other was an instructor.

It's certainly inappropriate to sleep with the person who's giving you your grades. It has the appearance of impropriety, if nothing else. Wait to date until you get out of that class, or request a transfer to a different class.

I'd say that the school would be well within its rights to fire her for unprofessional behavior, and I wouldn't object too strenuously to a law that made her lose her teaching license (if this occurred in a high school). But a felony? Prison? That's ridiculous.
